Live365 Stream URLs

Live365.com doesn’t make it easy for casual users to figure out how to play a radio station with anything but the Live365 website. There is a URL you can use to directly access the MP3 stream, it’s just hard to find. If you want to play a stream in iTunes, Winamp, or on your iPhone, XBOX Media Center, or any other compatible device you’ll need the direct stream URL.

The following link is a bookmarklet that you can use to get the stream URL for any Professional Live365 station. Make sure the station says “professional”, or the stream won’t work. Note: Streamly Radio, my fantastic iPhone radio application, can play non-professional Live365 stations if you have a Live365 username and password.

In Firefox and Safari you can left click (keep the button down) and drag this link to your bookmark toolbar. In Internet Explorer you can right click and add the link to your favorites.

Now when you visit a Live365 professional station page, like Houndstooth, you can click the saved bookmarklet and it will give you the stream URL.

Update 11/25/2010: This post has been updated to work after Live365 refreshed their site design. Remove and re-create the bookmarklet if you added it to your browser before 11/25/2010.

  1. Hey Just Purchased Your Streamly Radio On My Iphone…wish U Can Throw In The “The Boss” @ live365…Its A Party Station…Please.

  2. Hey thanks! Currently I only list stations in the directory that will play without a username/password. You can manually add the station to your Favorites list though – but if you’re looking at this post you probably already know how to do that. :)

  3. I want to thank you for this post. Since I discovered Screamer Radio I don’t deal with web players anymore, but reaching to the stream URL is getting harder.

No need to decrypt Wireshark traffic or download specific software. Your solution just works like a charm. Thank you for posting!

  4. Can you tell me if Epic Rock Radio is on your directory.. it is a Live356 station. I tried to look for it on my iphone but it is a little hard to find.. If it is not, can it be added to your list so the iphone app will play it?

  5. I added this station manually by getting the URL with your link above. But all I hear is a message saying “please login to Live365″. Ideas??

  6. I need to tell you straight off that I am not a programmer, so I’ll have to investigate your answer to understand what you are telling me… I have my own station. I want to make a very simple app (I was hoping anyway) to access and play just my station. Is that something that one can do easily? (I don’t mean mean me personally.)

    Thank you in advance!

  7. I was able to get my stream, using your technique. I forgot to mention that in my previous comment. Couldn’t I make a simple app using HTML5, now that I have the stream?

  8. @Tim – HTML5 does support an “audio” element that will play a lot of different streaming radio stations. App can mean a lot of things, so it could be easy or it could be a lot of work depending on who you ask.

  9. I couldn’t open the above link in any browser I tried, however I was able to determine through some Google searches that the stream I’m trying to play through I tunes is http://www.live365.com/play/262059, but I get an error message when I put this in saying I need to log in. What gives?

  10. @greg singh – That URL plays fine in Streamly, my iPhone app. It looks like that stream requires a Live365 login. A normal browser link won’t be able to send the login details to Live365.

  11. Thanks so much for this. I had a VIP membership, but cancelled it because their pricing is ridiculous for an infrequent user. They promptly removed my ability to play in iTunes with no notice and bombarded me with emails to come back at a *higher* price than I had been paying. Idiots – screw ‘em, your solution is perfect. The world is a better place because of people like you who take the time to share their knowledge. Thank you!!
