Installing Ad Hoc iPhone Apps

These types of applications are generally used for beta testing an app before it’s release in the iTunes App Store. If you’ve received a beta version of an iPhone app from me (or someone else) you should have a .zip file with two files inside.

  • Unzip the archive and make sure you have one file that ends in .mobileprovision. The other file is the actual application. On a Mac it looks like a normal application, on a PC it looks like a folder with an .app extension.

iPhone Ad Hoc Files

  • Open iTunes and connect your iPhone.
  • On a Mac drag the .mobileprovision file over to the dock and release it on the iTunes icon. On a PC drag the .mobileprovision file over the iTunes window and release.

iPhone Ad Hoc Install

  • Drag and release the app file (or folder on a PC) in the same way.
  • Sync your iPhone as normal.

That’s it. The app should now be installed on your iPhone.
